In addition to the popular nickel-copper alloy Monel k 400, Jainex Steel & Metal also has many Monel K500 products in stock. Monel K500 is an age-hardened version of Monel 400, meaning it has greater strength and resistance to corrosives, especially sea water. Monel K500 is ideal for use in machinery that is either submerged in the ocean or regularly exposed to sea water. Off-shore oil rigs, for instance, use Monel K500 for valve trimming and pump shafts. Jainex Steel & Metalhas a steel service center and a forging company, both of which offer Monel K500 products. The steel service center is a lot like a lumber yard, in that clients can purchase pre-cut alloys in different shapes, sizes and specifications. Monel K500 is available in pre-cut seamless pipe, hollow bar, strip, flat bar, and more.
The forging company also custom forges Monel K500 in contour rings, discs, shafts, open dies, and other forms.
Although they have secured their place as leaders in the specialty steel supply market, Jainex Steel & Metalhas a lot more to offer than just a huge inventory of steel products. They also provide a wealth of metallurgical information on their website. The Information Resources section of the site has become an online library for people searching for everything from definitions of metallurgical terms to industry news to a ferrous/non-ferrous materials overview.
Monel K500 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance characteristic of Monel 400 with the added advantage of greater strength and hardness. These amplified properties, strength and hardness, are obtained by adding aluminum and titanium to the nickel-copper base and by a thermal processing used to effect precipitation, typically called age hardening or aging. When in the age-hardened condition, Monel K-500 has a greater tendency toward stress-corrosion cracking in some environments than Monel 400.
What are the characteristics of Monel K500 Alloy?
Corrosion resistance in an extensive range of marine and chemical environments. From pure water to non-oxidizing mineral acids, salts and alkalis.
Excellent resistance to high velocity sea water.
Resistant to a sour-gas environment.
Excellent mechanical properties from sub-zero temperatures up to about 480C.
Non-magnetic alloy.
Monel K-500 is readily fabricated by standard commercial procedures. Welding alloy K-500 is best accomplished by the gas-tungsten-arc welding process. It is recommended that Monel K-500 be annealed when it is welded and that any weldments be stress relieved prior to aging.
